I wasn't a huge fan of Evernote when we were first introduced to it. I had never been encouraged to use my laptop in class before, or asked to download and use all of these resources. It seemed like it would take too much time, too much effort, and be such a hassle to use Evernote and organize my thoughts. I was right about that, at least for the first week or so. Once I started using it more often to take notes and for research, it became much easier to utilize. I still haven't used every function, only because a lot of the time I don't readily connect thoughts. However, I did clip most of the articles we discussed or referenced in class, and clipped articles for our research projects. I also took notes in class. If I wasn't in class, I took screenshots of our home page and put them in a note.
I have four separate main notebooks for different things. They are labelled: "EDC 102H", "WRT 104", "Jumpstart!", and "More Awesomeness". They each have sub-categories/subjects. Under "EDC 102H" I have three notebooks: "Class Notes", "Context Report", and "Music and Art in Education". Under "WRT 104" I have only two notebooks, "Notes" and "Projects". I attempted to use tags here, but I didn't really like it. Under "Jumpstart!" I have three notebooks, "My CATtime Hours", "Team Planning Notes", and "Other Stuffs". "More Awesomeness" has clips from things I like or find interesting, including, but not limited to: Harry Potter, Pokémon, Supernatural, Dead Frontier, Dark Summoner, and Xbox. It's pretty simple and to the point, not super-organized... but it works for me!
I think that Evernote will actually make me a better participant in my classes. It also may help boost my grades because many courses have similar or overlapping content, and I'll have everything organized and ready for use if I need it. I also am sure my notes from this class will not only be useful since I am an Education major, but also because one day I will have to choose what schools are best for my children. This technology is a resource that will make my notes everlasting (is that how Evernote got its name? I'll look that up), and I'll never be able to forget the things I learned because they will always be right there, just waiting for me to dive into my PKB and resurface with them. I'm really thankful that I was introduced to such a great tool that I can now utilize throughout my life.
